چکیده
The channel throughput and packet delay of wireless media access control (MAC) protocols with Rayleigh fading, shadowing and capture effect are analyzed. We consider CSMA/CA protocols as the wireless MAC protocols, since CSMA/CA protocols are based on the standard for wireless Local Area Networks (LANs) IEEE 802.11. We analyze the channel throughput and packet delay for three types of CSMA/CA protocols; Basic CSMA/CA, CSMA/CA with Acknowledgement and 4-Way Handshake CSMA/CA. We calculate the capture probability of a receiver in the channel with Rayleigh fading, shadowing and near-far effects, and derive the throughput and packet delay for the protocols. We have found that the performance of CSMA/CA in radio channel model is reduced 50 percent more than those of error free channel model in low traffic load. We also found that the 4Way Handshake CSMA/CA protocol is superior to the other CSMA/CA protocols.

متن کاملPerformance of Wireless Lans in Radio Channels
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are faced with the presence of hidden terminals and the possibility of capture when operating in multipath radio channels. These phenomena complicate both their design and performance analysis. This paper considers the performance of wireless LANs with Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol in fading channels. To assess the...

The performance of Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocols, which is adopted as a draft standard in IEEE 802.11, is analyzed in the view of throughput and packet delay. We consider three kinds of CSMA/CA protocols, which include Basic, Stop-and-Wait and 4-Way Handshake CSMA/CA, and introduce a theoretical analysis for them. First, we consider that a network consist...
متن کاملThe Effect of Finite Population on IEEE802.11 Wireless LANs Throughput/Delay Performance
The theoretical performance of CSMA/CA, as it is used in IEEE802.11 wireless LANs, is investigated in this paper. We adopt and modify a previously presented analytical approach for CSMA/CA protocols in wireless LANs with finite number of stations and find closed-form equations for throughput and delay. The presented numerical results highlight the characteristics of both CSMA/CA methods and def...

In this paper, we use a discrete Markov chain model to analyze the throughput of CSMA/CA protocols in a wireless local area network (WLAN) considering the capture phenomenon, which means the packet with the strongest power may capture the receiver even in the presence of other overlapping packets. The model of capture effect over the theoretical throughput of CSMA/CA protocols in the presence o...
